Intelligent voice recognition secretary service to be applied to vehicles

Hyundai-Kia researchers at Namyang Research Institute test intelligent voice recognition secretarial services to be installed on vehicles.

Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group and Kakao Corp. announced on August 30 that they have started a joint development project aimed at installing Kakao Mini smart speaker functions on Hyundai-Kia vehicles from next year.

The two companies have decided to jointly develop a technology that will optimize smart speakers for vehicles. When the technology development is completed, various functions provided through Kakao Mini will be available in the vehicles.

Currently, Kacao Mini offers daily life information content including news, stocks, exchange rates, fortune telling, and other services such as music, Kakao Talk, sports information, fairy tale reading, and food order.

Hyundai-Kia and Kakao will apply the functions that do not interfere with safe driving of the vehicles to new cars to be launched next year, and gradually expand the service.

To maximize driver convenience, the two companies also decided to install voice control of various convenience devices such as infotainment system and HVAC control systems.

When the function is implemented, you can press the voice recognition button on the steering wheel, and then give various voice commands to the vehicle such as "Turn on music (Melon)," "Read Kakao Talk messages,” and “Set the temperature at 21 degrees.”

As intelligent voice recognition services are delivered via a wireless network between the vehicle and the Kakao I server, they are only available through Hyundai-Kia's connected services, Genesis Connected Service, BlueLink, and UVO.

In addition to intelligent voice recognition services, the two companies decided to cooperate in developing more innovative connected car services.

Hyundai-Kia and Kakao have allied since last year and are accelerating the development of new connected car services.
