SK Global Chemical succeeded in developing light and durable eco-friendly plastic material that can significantly reduce the use of plastics. It plans to lead the global trend of using less plastics and hold up social values as a chemical manufacturer by producing eco-friendly products.

On August 29, SK Global Chemical disclosed its high-performance plastics with improved energy efficiency. The newly developed highly crystalline polypropylene plastics (HCPP) is an eco-friendly product that can reduce the amount of plastics used by 10 percent compared to when it used to be, and it can reduce the weight by up to 10 kg for a midsized car.

With recent tightened regulations on the use of plastics, the needs for high-performance plastics are growing. To lead the market trend and create social values of its business, SK Global Chemical started developing new HCPP products that are easier to process, highly durable and more shock-absorbing than the existing HCPP products. The company completed development of the products on August 6 and is now reviewing the time for the application.

SK Global Chemical explained, “By using the products, we will improve the fuel efficiency by around 2.8 percent, while reducing the emission of major air pollutants carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitrogen oxide (NOx) by 4.5 and 8.8 percent, respectively.”
