Competition in Battery Life

Three smartphone models of Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics have been listed among the top six smartphones with the longest battery life.

Three smartphone models of Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics were among the top six smartphones with the longest battery life, according to Consumer Reports (CR), a US leading consumer media outlet. The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 which did not hit tbe shelves yet was not included in CR’s evaluation.

According to the smartphone industry on August 19, CR recently announced the six smartphones with the longest battery life, and three of them were from Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics.


The Samsung Galaxy S8 Active took second place. The model was launched by Samsung Electronics last year in some parts of the US. The Galaxy S7 Edge came in third. The model is a strategic smartphone launched by Samsung Electronics in 2016.

Battery duration was 30.5 hours for the Galaxy S8 Active, 30 hours for the Galaxy S7 Edge. They have 4,000 mAh and 3 600 mAh batteries, respectively.

The Motorola Zero Play (3,000 mAh), a mid-priced phone launched last year by Motorola came in first with 31 hours. Fourth and fifth place went to the Huawei Mate 10 Pro (28.5 hours, 4000 mAh) and the Huawei Mate 9 (27 hours, 4000 mAh).

The LG Electronics's V35 ThinQ (3,300mAh) has a battery life of 27 hours, ranked sixth and was the only premium smartphone launched this year among the six models.

According to CR, a battery for the Samsung Galaxy S9 and a battery for the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus lasted 22.5 and 24 hours, respectively. The two are the strategic smartphone models of Samsung for the first half of this year. A battery for the iPhone X launched last year lasted only 19.5 hours.

These days, smartphone makers are increasing the capacities of batteries for smartphones as consumers spend more time on watching videos and playing games among others with smartphones.

Samsung Electronics will begin to sell the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 to general consumers on August 24. The new model has a 4,000 mAh battery, the largest among batteries for Samsung premium smartphones.

Some news has it that Huawei will apply a 4,000 mAh battery to the Mate 20 series this year after the Mate 10 series last year,.

LG Electronics launched the LG X5, a budget model with a 4,500 mAh battery in June.
