N. America's First 5G Smartphones
LG Electronics announced on August 15 that the company would supply 5G smartphones to Sprint, one of the major mobile carriers in North America, beginning in the first half of 2019.
“Smartphones supplied by LG Electronics will become North America's first 5G smartphones,” Sprint said on its website on August 14.
LG Electronics plans to lead the 5G era through this partnership starting from North America, the world's largest premium smartphone market.
"We are pleased to announce the launch of the first 5G smartphone with LG Electronics," said John Saw, chief technology officer (CTO) of Sprint. "We will strive to launch the first 5G mobile network services in the US next year. The innovative services will change the way we work, play and connect."
