The Samsung Dex has been treated as something that one hesitates to give up even though it is of little interest. The device was given a total makeover with the launch of the Galaxy Note 9. An HDMI adaptor can link the Galaxy Note 9 with TVs. Users of the Galaxy Note 9 are able to watch a video on a TV screen and send a text simultaneously via the Dex System.

Lim Chae-hwan, executive director of the B2B Service Development Group of Samsung Electronics's Wireless Business Division, introduced an upgrade version of the Samsung Dex in New York City on August 10 (local time). The Samsung Dex provides users with a PC environment by connecting a smartphone and a monitor.

The Samsung Dex, which debuted at an event for the launch of the Galaxy S8 last year, drew much attention as a service that provides PC use experiences using the Dex Station. In March of this year, during the launch of the Galaxy S9, Samsung presented a new Dex System to enable consumers to use the Galaxy S9 like a touchpad without using a separate keyboard.

The biggest change in the Samsung Dex for the Galaxy Note 9 is much easier connection. The previous Dex Systems were called poor in connection convenience as they required separate devices such as the Dex Station and the Dex Pad. But the Galaxy Note 9 only needs an HDMI adaptor to link to a TV or a PC monitor. After connection, customers can use the Galaxy Note 9 as a mouse and a keyboard. "If you touch the touchpad menu on the Galaxy Note 9 and move your finger on the smartphone screen, the Dex System appears on the screen of a connected TV," Lim said.

It is possible to use a PC screen and the screen of the Galaxy Note 9 separately even when the Dex System is running. For example, a user can watch a video or read a document on a PC or TV screen while sending a Kakao Talk message to a friend at the same time with the Galaxy Note 9 via the Dex System. In fact, during the Galaxy Note 9 unpacking event, a Samsung employee played a video on a PC monitor and sent a text message with the Galaxy Note 9 at the same time by using the Dex System. Applications optimized for the Dex System has increased to about 80 from about 40 in the previous year. "The Samsung Dex can offer multitasking, Internet use, games, and other entertainment," said Lim. "In the future, smartphones will be able to do everything the PCs can."
