Samyang Corp., one of Korea's major chemical and foodstuff producers, is seeking to penetrate global food markets with its newly developed high-function specialty materials.

The company announced on July 18 that it joined this year’s IFT Expo held in Chicago from July 16 to 18. Hosted by the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), the annual expo is one of the largest events in the food technology industry, attended by more than 20,000 buyers and engineers and over 1,200 companies from 80 or so countries around the world. The IFT is an international academic organization of food experts.

At this year’s show, Samyang exhibited dietary fibers based on grain materials along with functional sugar products incorporating its own enzyme technology, such as allulose, kestose and G4 oligosaccharide.

“We are producing a variety of premium sugar products and dietary fibers by using our own enzyme technology,” Samyang explained, adding, “We will accelerate global market penetration via the expo, where we successfully promoted our products and technologies.”

Samyang Group is currently moving ahead with a plan to invest a total of 2.4 trillion won in order to reach 5.5 trillion won in sales in 2020. The food business unit of the group is working on M&As, joint ventures and so on for overseas business expansion.
