KT plans to enter the European market in partnership with a German telecom equipment manufacturer.

KT announced on July 12 that it has signed an MOU on July 10 with Albis-Elcon, a German telecommunication equipment and solution provider, for strategic cooperation.

Albis-Elcon has offices in 10 countries including Germany, and has supplied more than 13 million systems and equipment to about 100 telecommunications companies in 40 countries including Deutsche Telekom and Telefonica.

With the recent agreement, KT will broaden its global expansion of "Giga" solutions such as "Giga Wire" and "Giga WiFi." Giga Wire, developed in 2014, is a technology that realizes gigabit internet speed with existing copper wire without optical cables. So far, more than 200,000 lines have been installed in Korea and the technology was exported to Thailand and Malaysia.

KT plans to expand its Giga Wire technology in Europe, where it is difficult to construct optical fiber cables due to the large number of old buildings. "We also plan to cooperate in exporting more than 100 billion won worth of Giga WiFi Home to the global market by 2020.”

In addition, the two companies will pursue joint projects in various fields such as 5G network and solution, platform business including energy and security, and artificial intelligence.

Kim Hyung-joon, executive director of the KT Global Business Unit, said, "We have established a bridgehead for global market expansion. We will create synergies in various fields such as platforms, 5G and AI."
