Naver’s application Band has the highest number of users in the market for social network services (SNS) in South Korea.
A mobile marketing company Mobidays conducted a survey based on data from AppApe on June 21. The data showed that Band recorded the highest monthly active users (MAUs) from January to May this year among all social networking applications, followed by Facebook, Instagram, Kakaostory and Twitter.
Out of the top 10 MAUs during the same period, Band took up a whopping 25% share (72.6 million users). Both Facebook and Instagram stood at less than 20% share with 49.9 million and 48.1 million users, respectively. Kakaostory remained at 16% with 41.9 million users.
Preferred social networking application differed depending on age. Facebook and Instagram had the most users from teens to twenties. Band and Kakaostory had more users who were in their thirties and above.
An official from Mobidays, who analyzed the data, said, “As Band is used just among the members that receive direct invitations, it tends to be more closed compared to other social networking services. However, it is convenient for meetings or club activities, which is why those in their thirties and above prefer the app.”
