SK Telecom unveiled LTE-A technology using broadband frequency modulation for the first time in Korea, and thus heralded an era where mobile phones provide faster connection speeds than conventional phones do now. In the latter half of next year, the mobile carrier will commercialize the mobile service that offers connection speeds of up to 225 Mbps, 3 times faster than the existing LTE network. The speed is made possible by combining broadband LTE and LTE-A.

The company held an event at its office in Bundang, Gyeonggi Province on November 28 to demonstrate the two-band LTE-A technology. Up to 225 Mbps can be provided by putting together a 20 MHz bandwidth in the 1.8 GHz band and a 10 MHz bandwidth in the 800 MHz band.

SK Telecom is forecasting that the use of mobile-based video content will increase, and the trend of ultra-high-definition and capacity will be accelerated due to an advance in LTE-Advanced technology. In addition, it is expected that the convergence of mobile communications and relevant industries, such as wearable devices and the Internet of Things, will gain momentum.
