Daelim Industrial said on November 26 that it obtained a plant expansion order worth US$2.1 billion from the Omani government.

Daelim has teamed up with British company Petrofac to win the project. The share of Daelim amounts to US$1.05 billion (1.11 trillion won). Petrofac is one of the world’s leading oilfield service companies.

The project includes the construction of a new refinery to produce naphtha, gasoline, and diesel as well as expansion of the existing refinery in the Sohar Industrial Area, a coastal area 230 kilometers northwest of Muscat, the capital of Oman.

The consortium will provide all the services of design, procurement, construction and testing. Daelim will take charge of the construction of eight new refineries, and Petrofac will be responsible for the renovation of the existing plant and the construction of a project support facility.

The consortium will complete the project in 36 months once work commences. Daelim, however, did not reveal when it will break ground.

When completed, the daily average capacity for oil production in the industrial complex is expected to rise by about 70 percent, to 187,777 barrels from 116,400.
