Smart Cleaner
An LG Electronics robot cleaner helped catch a burglar in Israel, the company said on May 28.
According to the Korean home electronics company, Mr. Kobi Ozer, an office worker living in Holon, Israel, received multiple photos on his smartphone at his office on April 29. The photos, sent by his LG robot cleaner Hom-Bot in his house, showed a burglar in his house.
The cleaner detected the burglar’s movement and took the pictures with its Home Guard feature. Based on this feature, the product takes successive photos when a movement is detected in the house where it is in and sends the photos to the smartphone of the owner of the house.
Upon receiving the photos, Mr. Kobi Ozer reported the incident to the police and his neighbors. The burglar ran away at the picture-taking sound from the cleaner. This story became known to people after Mr. Kobi Ozer called a local after-sales service center of LG Electronics to thank it and the story was broadcast on TV in the middle of this month.
The incident illustrates how smart home appliances based on artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) can support real-time security systems.
