The Korea Testing & Research Institute (KTR) has concluded a business agreement with the Vietnam Certification Center (QUACERT) in the fields of secondary batteries and light emitting diode (LED) lighting equipment.

The deal has made the KTR a certification body that can conduct tests to see whether products conform to the applicable technical standard. The KTR covers electrical and electronic products, including washing machines, refrigerators, freezers, secondary batteries, and LED lighting equipment.

The new arrangement will benefit Korean manufacturers of these products, as they can obtain a certification (CR) mark through the KTR without going to local certification institutions in Vietnam. The time and cost required for the certification process will be significantly reduced.

The signing of the deal is a response to Vietnam’s plan to implement strengthened safety regulations on secondary batteries and LED lighting equipment in the second half of this year.

Under the new regulations, imported secondary batteries and LED lighting equipment products must be certified by designated institutions.

The KTR and the Vietnamese Certification Center also agreed to expand cooperation in meeting Vietnam's technical regulations through information exchanges and joint seminars in areas such as product safety, standardization, technical regulations and conformity assessment.

"This business agreement will facilitate exports of Korean electrical and electronic products to Vietnam,” said Byun Jong-rip, director of the KTR. “We will continue to expand cooperation with Vietnam so that Korean companies can enter its market more easily."
