Google’s second-generation Nexus 7 is reported to have been sold more than any other product in the Korean tablet market, threatening local handset manufacturers like Samsung and LG.

According to industry sources on November 18, around 200,000 units of the Nexus 7 have been sold less than three months after its launch in August. Currently, 3,000-4,000 units are sold per day, continuing its popularity in Korea.

The reported stellar sales figures for the new version of the Nexus 7 far exceed those of the old model unveiled in September last year. The 2012 version has sold just 100,000 units so far.

Many people say that the reason behind the new model’s huge popularity in the market lies in increased distribution networks, price competitiveness, and high quality. An industry source said, “The first-gen Nexus 7 was only available online, but the second-generation has been available both online and offline,” adding, “In particular, the Nexus 7 is the best among tablets in Korea in terms of price and quality.”

In fact, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 and LG’s G Pad 8.3 take a backseat to the second-gen Nexus 7 in sales. The average sales volume of Google’s new flagship product are said to be twice as much as those of Samsung’s and LG’s new tablets.

An official in the local market commented, “Both the Nexus 7 and the Nexus 5 are affordable and high-performance handsets. So, those products are receiving a very positive consumer reaction.” The official continued by saying, “Although Google does not seek to generate profits from its Android devices at the moment, the company should diversify its product lines, just in case.”
