For Construction of Legoland Korea

Merlin, the operator of Legoland, will invest more than 300 billion won to build the Legoland Korea theme park in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, by 2020, the Gangwon Provincial Government said on May 14.

The provincial government signed a win-win partnership agreement with Merlin at its building with the attendance of Governor Choi Moon-sun and Merlin president John Jacobson.

Merlin. a British company that operates 8 Legoland theme partks around the world, will build about 40 facilities, including Smart Lego Play facilities, Lego Hotel, an observation tower and an aquarium, in Legoland Korea. It aims to make the theme park Asia’s best landmark. 

The province is planning to develop the theme park into a comprehensive tourist attraction by expanding indoor play facilities.

Gangwon Province expects the project will create up to 1,400 new jobs. The project will also help the provincial government to undertake lucrative projects such as site development and infrastructure construction around the theme park.

"We could land the direct investment from Merlin thanks to the PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games," said governor Choi. "The theme park will help us make Chuncheon one of the world's top tourist attractions."
