IoT-based Device Measures Pollutants

KT has signed a business agreement with the Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office to measure and respond to the particulate matter in industrial complexes located in and around Ulsan City.

In accordance with the agreement signed on May 8, the two organizations are going to measure the particulate matter emitted by the industrial complexes in Busan, Ulsan and South Gyeongsang Province and improve the air quality in the regions by means of big data analysis. To this end, KT sets up IoT-based air quality measurement devices along with an intelligent particulate matter management system.

The devices, which are scheduled to be installed in the Mipo and Onsan National Industrial Complexes in Ulsan, will measure particulate matter and ultrafine particles in real time along with atmospheric indicators such as temperature and humidity. In addition, the devices will analyze weather information and floating population information with big data to find out regions especially vulnerable to the pollutants and help KT and the Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office work on particulate matter reduction measures.

The office, in the meantime, is going to set up a control center after the installation of the devices. The control center is to take measures such as air quality information collection and notification, water sprinkler truck operation, and particulate matter-related facility management.
