The Korea Expressway Corporation announced on April 4 that it kicked off a consulting project for traffic congestion mitigation in Mauritius on March 30.

The opening ceremony for the project with a total value of 12 billion won was attended by Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth and local government officials.

The Korea Expressway Corporation and the Mauritius government signed their contract for the project in November 2016. According to the contract, the South Korean corporation is planning to rebuild three roundabouts into overpasses while conducting design, construction supervision, defect management and so on with regard to access road construction for traffic congestion mitigation.

“Mauritius is home to a number of international organizations such as the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank and, as such, it can be a bridgehead for many South Korean companies’ future business in Africa as a whole,” the Korea Expressway Corporation explained, adding, “We will finish the project successfully so that more South Korean companies can have an easier access to the African continent.”
