ABC News reported on November 6 (local time) that Oprah Winfrey endorsed the Galaxy Gear.
The former talk show queen included Samsung’s smart watch in Oprah Winfrey’s Favorite Things 2013 List. Every year, she announces her list of presents before Thanksgiving Day.
Oprah explained, “I can surreptitiously check my cell phone call history, text messages, and e-mail during a meeting. Others think that I’m just checking the time.” However, she did not mention the exact reason why the Galaxy Gear is in the list.
Despite the public endorsement, the smart watch has been maligned by experts in the US for having an unintuitive interface and poor battery life since its October launch.
“Samsung’s attempt to make the Galaxy Gear a style icon was not successful, since the company failed to target a certain group. It tried to satisfy everyone’s taste, but ended up making an unattractive product,” said VladSavov, a senior reporter of US-based IT website The Verge.
“I didn’t want to wear the Gear again, after untying it from my wrist to recharge it,” said Lauren Goode at her product review featured in the Wall Street Journal.
