E-Mart unveiled the world's first self-driving smart cart on March 29.
Earlier Jung Yong-jin, vice chairman of the Shinsegae Group. said "We will show a surprise concept cart in one month."
On the day, vice chairman Chung revealed a video of self-driving smart cart (Eli) that E-Mart is developing in his Instagram. Chung said that Eli was a smart cart which was being developed for the first time in the world.
In the released video, the smart cart is loaded with innovative features such as autonomous navigation, scanning and navigation. The video showed that the smart car worked as a shopping guide while moving with a customer.
E-Mart is planning to apply the smart cart to the field. "Since the smart cart costs big investment, we should get rid of flaws in the smart cart after tentatively running it," Chung said. “We are considering introducing it within three years." Chung picked out E-Mart Traders in Hanam as a strong candidate to adopt the smart cart.
