Samsung Electronics set its mobile phone sales goal for next year at 550 million units. It is planning to sell 100 million units of smartphones each quarter to achieve an annual sales volume of 400 million units and keep its rivals, not just Apple but also Chinese manufacturers, at bay.

Samsung Electronics held an executive meeting on October 31 at its office in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, and temporarily fixed the goal for next year. If it is met, the global market share of the company goes up from 27% to 30%. Samsung’s long-term plan is to break the 400 trillion won sales mark in or before 2020 by continuing its rapid growth in the mobile sector.

The manufacturer is expected to sell 130 million units of mobile phones in the fourth quarter this year, and reach accumulated sales of 460 million units this year. “Although the volume falls short of our initial goal of 480 million units, it is highly meaningful, because we recorded 15% growth year on year in spite of the current slowdown in the global market,” it explained.

Samsung Electronics is striving to keep its number one position in the smartphone market. It is considering that the goal of selling 100 million units of smartphones for each quarter of next year will be attained without difficulty, since it has set new sales records for 15 consecutive quarters since the first quarter of 2010. Not only new products such as the Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy Gear, but also the curved Galaxy Round, the tablet PC Galaxy Note 8.0, and the Galaxy Tab 10.1 are expected to be well received by customers. In addition, the Galaxy S5 and the Galaxy Note 4 are standing by to hit the market early next year.
