The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) announced that it developed, with KT, Lanbird Technology and S.Net ICT, a technology for controlling 5G and WiFi connection environments by means of a single network and a single control system.
At present, 3G networks, 4G LTE networks and wired communication networks are individually operated and whether to use 4G LTE or not is determined by each user. This is why, for example, video streaming on a user’s smartphone is delayed or interrupted when he or she enters a subway train equipped with WiFi. With the newly developed technology, such inconveniences can be eliminated by a single network and a single signal system controlling different wired and wireless communication environments.
The ETRI has worked on the 5G core network technique since 2015. When the technology is used, optimal connection networks for traffic distribution depending on conditions such as data traffic load and QoS can be found during simultaneous 5G and WiFi connection.
In addition, dynamic route reconfiguration for traffic optimization can be carried out in response to a change in access network load. As a result, high connection quality can be provided for users and access network load can be dynamically controlled.
