According to the Ministry of Environment (MOE) on March 12, polyhexamethylene guanidine (PHMG) was found in deodorant sprays manufactured by PIGEON Corporation.

The Elegant Mimosa and the Romantic Rose contain 0.00699 percent and 0.009 percent of PHMG respectively. PHMG can cause toxicity in the nasal cavity, larynx and lung when inhaled, serious damage to eyes and severe damage to the organs when exposed in the long term or repeatedly.

Previously, the ministry ordered Oxy Reckitt Benckiser to stop selling its humidifier disinfectants containing PHMG that is hazardous to human health.

After the MOE announced its report, consumers who used PIGEON products are worrying that their bodies might suffer from the side effects as consumers using humidifier disinfectants produced by Oxy did.

PIGEON issued an official apology on its website and informed the refund procedure.

The company said, “We apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused. We will dedicate our best efforts to become a company that reaches consumers with safe and reliable products in the future.”

Meanwhile, PIGEON announced to file all criminal and civil suits against AK Chemtech, the producer of deodorant sprays containing PHMG.
