A large-scale resort complex is scheduled to be built on Yeongjong Island, Incheon.

At an October 22 press briefing held in Lotte Hotel Seoul, Korea’s largest casino operator Paradise Group announced that it plans to build Paradise City by 2017 through with an investment of 1.9 trillion won (US$1.799 billion). Paradise City is the name of a Korean resort complex that will be located at the International Business Center (IBC-I) site of Incheon International Airport.

The 336,000 m2 complex, which is equivalent to 47 soccer stadiums in size, will be developed in two stages. First, its construction will begin in the latter half of next year and begin operation in 2017. There will be conference facilities, first-class hotels, Korea’s biggest casino for foreigners only, indoor and outdoor entertainment facilities, multi-purpose halls, and shopping centers at the complex. Then, additional five-star hotels, spas, and shopping facilities will open and the construction of a casino extension will start.

What is noticeable is that Paradise’s joint venture with Japanese entertainment group Sega Sammy Holdings Inc. is based on Korean culture, so that visitors can experience a variety of Korean culture and the Korean Wave, or Hallyu. At the resort complex, the world’s biggest entertainment venue is expected to be open with a K-pop museum and other facilities so that foreigners can experience Hallyu through beauty, food, fashion, art, and many other forms of Korean culture.

The location of the casino resort complex is ideal, 1.1 km away from the public area of the Passenger Terminal at Incheon International Airport, which will probably attract a lot of foreign tourists.

Paradise-Sega Sammy President Choi Jong-hwan said, “We will build a luxurious resort where foreign visitors can experience Korean culture while staying here. Through this project, we will try hard to upgrade the domestic casino industry and make Paradise City one of the major tourist attractions in Korea.”

There has not been any word about whether or not Guns N’ Roses will be involved.
