Hanwha Energy announced on December 6 that it won a 48-megawatt solar power generation project from the Energy Commission of Malaysia.

The project is to build a photovoltaic power plant in Perlis, which is the northern-most state in the West Coast of Peninsular Malaysia.

The construction project starts in July 2019 before commercial production scheduled for October 2020. Once the construction is completed, the power station produces electricity that can be used by 15,000 households.

The project is ordered by TNB, a state-owned power company of Malaysia. The project is on a build-own-operate (BOO) basis. Hanwha Energy has become the first South Korean company to lead the Malaysian government’s solar power generation project.
