Korean dried laver is capturing the tastes of people around the world.
According to the Korea Customs Service on November 29, dried laver exports in the first ten month of this year amounted to US$ 450 million, up 48.4% from the same period of last year. The Korea Customs Service explained that Korea's exports were renewing record highs every year on the basis of seasoning technology.
Leading importers of Korean dried laver were Japan (23.5 percent), China (17.5 percent), the US (15.8 percent) and Thailand (15.5 percent). In particular, exports to Japan totaled US$ 105 million, a year-on-year increase of 52%.
In the case of the US, it has maintained as the No. 1 position as an importer of Korean dried laver since 2013, which suggests that Korea's seasoning technology, which revives crispy texture, captures the tastes of locals.
According to the Korea Customs Service, a trend favoring well-being food in the world has steadily pulled up demand for dried laver with low calories and high protein and vitamin content so Korea’s dried laver exports are expected to hit US 500 million within this year.
