Power Supply Network for Philippines

The Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) said on November 14 that the company signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the construction and operation of electric supply network and a smart energy city in New Clark City with the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) at the BCDA building in the Clark Special Economic Zone in the Philippines on November 10 (local time). 

The New Clark City development project aims to build a new city with a population of one million residents on land of 9,450 hectares in the Clark area in the central region of Luzon Island of the Philippines. The project belongs to the BCDA of the Philippines. The new city will be 32 times as wide as Yeouido of Seoul. 

KEPCO will carry out a feasibility study on "power supply through the construction of an underground power supply network and the construction of New Clark Smart Energy City" in Clark New City through the MOU. After that, the company is planning to establish a power distribution company in cooperation with the BCDA and build and operate an underground power distribution network in Clark New City. 

Smart Energy City is a project to optimize energy management by converging smart grid infrastructure and information and communication technology. KEPCO expects that they can build an informatization city with increased convenience and and the creation of new industries.  

"It is the first time for us to enter the overseas power distribution business of a metropolitan city through the utilization of new smart power supply technology," a KEPCO official said.  "We will steadily go ahead with new electric power technology projects in overseas countries such as smart grid energy management systems."
