The Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) announced on November 6 that it has developed a technology to predict promising patent products with high business value by combining artificial intelligence (AI) with its Technology Opportunity Discovery (TOD) big data system.

The TOD system is an intelligent platform the KISTI developed to find new business opportunities by combining technology management theories with scientometrics, big data processing, etc. The system automatically performs enterprise-specific product portfolio analysis and analyzes hundreds of thousands of products’ relations with regard to patents and trademark rights.

In the electrical and electronic sector, the promising patent products include semiconductor manufacturing equipment such as electron beam lithography equipment, semiconductor devices such as FinFET, measuring sensors such as touch and image sensors, LEDs, printing devices, virtual reality displays, and displays for special purposes such as cockpits.

In the field of information and communications technology, the products include wireless beacons, short range communication devices such as near-field communication antennas, human interfaces, humanoid robots and social network systems.

In the medical and biotech sector, those include living body measurement devices and sensors, medical materials, and drug delivery systems along with positron emission tomography (PET) and computed tomography (CT) equipment, bone anchors, and implantable electrostimulation devices.

In the transport sector, the products include a number of items related to electric vehicles and autonomous cars along with computing, safety and diagnostic devices and aircraft turbine components.
