KT and Intel signed a cooperation agreement with each other in Seoul on October 31. The purpose of the agreement is to provide pilot 5G services at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.

KT is an official partner of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics and Intel is aiming to provide various services at the Olympics based on its 5G platform. The two companies are planning to combine their 5G networking technology and 5G platform capabilities so that people around the world can be more immersed in the experience they provide during the period of the event.

“The 5G services of both KT and Intel can be applied to KT’s 5G network for testing purposes as the network is closest to a commercial model in terms of standards, terminals, systems and so on,” Intel explained, adding, “We hope that our cooperation with KT will help us have more know-how in the field of 5G.”

“The two companies’ cooperation will show what 5G is capable of doing,” said Sandra L. Rivera, senior vice president and general manager of the Network Platforms Group at Intel Corporation. She continued to say that they would come up with a strong end-to-end 5G solution by realizing 5G in the aspects of network, cloud and user.
