Daelim Industrial held a ceremony in honor of the opening of the Sungai Brunei Grand Bridge, the first cable-stayed bridges built by the contractor, in Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei on October 14.

The opening ceremony was held with commemorative events for the 50th anniversary of Bruneian king's coronation with the participation of officials and local residents including Hassanal Bolkiah, sultan of Brunei and Yoon Tae-sup, vice president of Daelim Industrial.

Sungai Brunei Grand Bridge is the first cable-stayed bridge over the Brunei River. The builder applied the local religion and culture to the bridge to make the bridge match this symbolism. First, the upper part of the main tower was designed as a traditional dome style symbolizing the state religion of Islam. The part under the main tower was designed as a crescent shape, which is the national flag pattern, and an Islamic prayer room was also included in the bridge in consideration of religious characteristics. The main tower is 157 meters tall and 157 matches the 15th of July which is the king’s birthday. The tower was recorded as the highest construction structure in Brunei devoid of high-rise buildings.

The Sungai Brunei Grand Bridge is a one-main tower cable-stayed bridge with four main lanes. Its total length is 712 meters and its main span length 300 meters. The bridge connects Lumapas and Jalan Residency of the two areas of Bandar Seri Begawan dissected by the Brunei River. Before, the shortest route between the two areas was 40 kilometers long but the bridge considerably reduced it to 717 meters.
