Kakao announced on October 12 that the company signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Samsung Electronics to link KakaoTalk and AI platform “Kakao I” to Samsung household appliances.

A smart home appliance service that Kakao will carry out with Samsung Electronics enables to control household appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners via Kakao Talk messages or Kakao Mini (smart speaker of Kakao). Kakao's service, voice engine and dialog engine (chatbot) technology helps consumers use Samsung's consumer electronics products more quickly and conveniently.

For example, in summer, if a user say, "I'll be there in 30 minutes, please cool down my home," via a Kakao talk message or a voice command in a car on his way home, the air conditioner at home begins to run in advance and sets temperature and humidity for the user. The service can also check the contents of the user’s refrigerator and recommend food recipes or order insufficient foodstuffs via a Kakao Talk shopping function.

Smart home appliance service will evolve so that home appliances can perform functions when they simply give orders for specific situations such as 'preparing to go to work' and 'preparing to go to sleep'. Developers will enable them to inform consumers of the status and replacement cycles of various consumable items in household appliances by sending a Kakao talk message or ordering necessary consumables directly.

Kakao and Samsung Electronics will cooperate to implement comprehensive device control based on people’s living environments and use pattern learning, starting with controlling the functions of devices through voice commands and KakaoTalk messages.
