The Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service (HIRA) of South Korea selected LG CNS as the preferred bidder for its project for establishing Bahrain’s new national health insurance system. The system establishment process is scheduled to begin within this month.

A total of 10.3 billion won (US$9.2million) is scheduled to be invested in the national health insurance reform project led by the government of Bahrain. The HIRA oversees the project, as the organization authorized to select the preferred bidder, while the governments of South Korea and Bahrain cooperating with each other.

LG CNS, which was the sole bidder for the project, is the company that previously established a similar system for the HIRA. The final contract is scheduled to be signed on September 8.

The government of Bahrain decided to bring in the system from South Korea in early 2016 after looking into those of Japan, Europe and so on for years. The decision was based on the fact that South Korea’s system allows more than 50 million people’s medical costs, prescriptions, medical treatment appropriateness and the like to be monitored in real time. Then, the government of Bahrain signed an agreement with the HIRA and the latter initiated the preparatory process. The HIRA establishes a drug utilization review (DUR) system, a national health insurance information system (NHIIS), and a system for smart utilization of national electronic medical records (SUN) in the project.

LG CNS is planning to apply cloud services for remote system development, repair and maintenance along with model-driven development (MDD) for software development that requires no coding. As it requires no coding, those in charge in Bahrain can take part from the initial design stage and carry out repair and maintenance with ease. In this regard, LG CNS is expecting that its system will be able to make inroads into other countries as well.
