Nvidia proposed the establishment of a joint AI robot research center with KAIST.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang sent an email to the Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology (KAIST). In the email, he said that he would sponsor the Artificial Intelligence (AI) World Cup of the KAIST and proposed the establishment of a joint AI robot research center.

“We are discussing the establishment of the research center with Nvidia for continuous research activities and engineer training in the field of AI,” the KAIST said on August 31, adding, “It seems that Nvidia’s proposition is to take the lead in the development of AI by attracting more AI experts.”

With AI experts increasingly in demand around the world these days, more and more global companies in the industry are getting in touch with research institutes and colleges in South Korea. The examples include not only Nvidia but also Google, Apple, Facebook and Intel and they are reaching out to South Korean students in their home country as well as those in the research labs of the top universities in the United States.

For the past three years, about 45 KAIST graduates were recruited by Nvidia, Apple, Intel, etc. In addition, 10 or so Seoul National University engineering graduates started their career in the Silicon Valley.
