The Korea Entrepreneurship Foundation (KEF) announced that the general meeting of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) for next year takes place in South Korea in February 2018 based on the sponsorship agreement it signed in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in February this year with the Global Entrepreneurship Research Association (GERA).

According to the agreement, the KEF is scheduled to serve as a board member of the GERA until February 2020 with rights to speak and vote on major issues related to the GEM’s research activities, various events, etc.

In addition, the KEF can provide sponsorship during the period by taking part in international events related to the GEM and hosting the general meeting of the GEM. Furthermore, it can issue the global and regional reports of the GEM while exercising its right to vote in the board of directors of the GERA and with regard to the screening of the other sponsors.

“I am very glad to see South Korea join us as a new board member with Asian countries showing a remarkable improvement in entrepreneurship these days,” said Mike Herrington, head of the GERA, adding, “We hope that next year’s general meeting in South Korea will be an opportunity to look into the sustainable growth of the entrepreneurship of South Korea and many other Asian countries based on strong government leadership, seamless technological innovation, and startup activities and propose a new standard to move the global entrepreneurship ecosystem to the next level.”

“It is an honor for us to hold the globally renowned general meeting in South Korea with the GERA,” KEF Secretary General Kum Gi-hyun said in response. He went on to say, “Entrepreneurship, which is the foundation of economic development and social innovation, is a matter of much policy and scholarly interest nowadays and, as such, we hope that South Korea’s standing and potential in terms of entrepreneurship will be acknowledged and shared via the opportunity.”
