On August 8, Samsung Display held its second Curved Forum at the Yanqi Lake International Convention Center located in Beijing and unveiled its S-Curved LCD and 65-inch curved glass light guide plate (LGP).

The S-Curved LCD is a product that is curved not only horizontally but also vertically. According to Samsung Display, pixels dedicated to the curved display are applied to the four sides of the LCD for a curvature similar to that of an eyeball and a high level of immersion. It is the first LCD that is curved on four sides although LCDs curved on the right and left sides are already in commercial use. The 65-inch curved glass LGP has a thickness of merely 4.9 mm and is capable of realizing various designs in spite of its wide area.

These days, Samsung Display is trying to expand the curved display market in China by working with TV manufacturers such as TCL and Hisense. According to market research firm CMM, 33 brands around the world released 289 curved LCD products until May this year, doubling the size of the market in about one year.

Specifically, the curved TV market has shown an average annual growth of 300% since the first curved TV was released in 2014. This year, the sales volume is estimated to reach at least four million units in China alone. The curved monitor market is growing even more rapidly with a sales volume of at least 7.5 million units estimated for this year.
