The Ministry of Science & ICT of South Korea announced on August 6 that Dr. Jeon Ho-shik at the Green Technology Center will be dispatched to the Climate Technology Centre & Network (CTCN) Secretariat. This is the first time that a South Korean climatologist is dispatched to the CTCN.

The CTCN is an organization providing technical support for developing countries in order to help them comply with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Dr. Jeon at the CTCN Secretariat is slated to examine what technology developing countries are in need of in relation to climate change policy and provide climatological technology in cooperation with developed countries.

The ministry has provided related technology for the CTCN since December 2015 for environmental protection and climate stabilization. In addition, the ministry is planning to provide approximately one billion won for the CTCN between this year and 2020.

“Dr. Jeon Ho-shik is expected to enable South Korea to have more experience in technical support for developing countries in the field of climatological studies,” the ministry explained, adding, “This will lay a cornerstone for the global expansion of South Korea’s climate technology industry and its cooperation with those of the other countries.”
