Samsung Electronics developed 6CA modem technology which is the first in the industry to bundle six frequency bands to support stabler and faster data communication. The company succeeded in developing a high-speed LTE modem capable of downloading a two-hour HD movie into a smartphone in just 10 seconds.

Samsung Electronics announced on July 31 that the company developed the industry's first 6CA modem technology after the introduction of 1Gbps (1Gbps) modem technology, which supports 5CA in February.

Samsung Electronics is planning to apply 6CA 1.2Gbps LTE modem technology to a mobile processor that the company will begin to mass-produce at the end of the year.

CA (carrier aggregation) is technology that realizes wide bandwidth by grouping multiple frequency bands into one. Samsung's 6CA modem technology can bundle up to 6 frequency bands, enabling fast and stable data communication.

Samsung's 6CA modem technology showed a download speed of up to 1.2Gbps (Cat.18), an improvement of 20% compared to current technology, according to the results of measurement made by equipment made by Japanese company Anritsu specializing in communications instruments.

The download speed of 1.2Gbps means that you can download a two-hour HD movie within 10 seconds. Improving modem performance in this manner lets consumers enjoy high-quality data services such as high-definition video calls and live broadcast.

In order to maximize data transmission speeds, Samsung Electronics developed 4 × 4 MIMO technology that can simultaneously use four antennas for base stations and terminals, and applied '256QAM' technology which processes a frequency modulation and demodulation scheme at the unit of 8 bits, not old 6 bits.

In addition, the company empowered telcos to efficiently utilize their existing frequency resources and equipment by applying enhanced licensed assisted access (eLAA) technology, which can utilize some of unlicensed band frequencies such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

This 6CA 1.2Gbps LTE modem technology is an accomplishment after announcing the industry's first 1Cbps modem technology to support 5CA through the launch of Exynos 9 in February and will be first applied to a mobile process that will be mass-produced at the end of this year.
