GS Engineering & Construction Corp. (GS E&C) announced on June 30 that the contractor received a US$865 million order from UAE Takreer (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company) on June 30.

GS E&C received an order to build the plant in 2009 and completed and delivered it in the Ruwais Petrochemical Complex 250 km west of Abu Dhabi, the capital of UAE, in November 2016. However, in January of this year, during the period of operation by the client, a fire broke out, damaging many parts such as gasoline and propylene production facilities. The repair cost will be covered by the client's insurance.

The client concluded that GS E&C will be able to finish recovery work more quickly than others as the Korean contractor built the plant on its own, and signed the main recovery work contract with GS E&C.

GS E&C already begun basic construction at the request of the client, and will undertake the entire process from designing, purchasing, and construction of recovery work for damaged facilities. The project is scheduled to be completed in early 2019 after about 18 months’ work.

As a result, GS E&C will carry out a total of seven oil and gas plant construction projects in the UAE, solidifying its solid position in the UAE plant market rich in natural resources such as crude oil and natural gas.
