Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy Note 8, the successor of Galaxy Note 7, will be unveiled in New York in August.

According to electronics industry sources on June 20, Samsung Electronics is planning to reveal its strategic flagship smartphone “Galaxy Note 8” through its unpacked event in New York at the end of August. The company is still considering whether to hold the event during the third week or the fourth week of August.

Samsung initially planned to release the Galaxy Note 8 at the IFA 2017, the world’s largest trade show for consumer electronics and home appliances to be held in Berlin, Germany, in September. However, the company decided to advance the schedule as the next iPhone is expected to be revealed in September.

The Galaxy Note 8 will have the same dual edge curved display and Infinity display with the Galaxy S8 launched in April. It will come with Bixby AI assistant and iris scanner as shown in the previous model as well as a 6.3-inch display.

The Galaxy Note 8 is highly likely to become Samsung’s first premium smartphone with a dual camera module. Samsung is expected to use a dual camera module in the Galaxy C10 to be launched in China this month for the first time before that.

However, it is still unclear whether the Galaxy Note 8 will feature the much anticipated in-display fingerprint sensor. As many complained the location of the fingerprint scanner in the Galaxy S8 on the back of the phone, they expect that Samsung will relocate the fingerprint scanner on the front in the next Galaxy Note 8 flagship. But, foreign media says that Samsung has decided not to due to security issues.

Tech publication SamMobile said, “Either Apple or Samsung is expected to release the first smartphone with the fingerprint scanner on the front but China’s Vivo can take the title of the first considering a video clip recently released by the company.”

In addition, Samsung carries out the trade-in used phone sale in order to increase the sales of the Galaxy S8 series in the U.S. market. According to tech news outlet Phone Arena, Samsung runs a program which allows customers to purchase the Galaxy S8 models at a US200 to 350 discounted price according to models when they return their used phones.
