Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors announced on June 14 that they held the "R&D Partner Tech Day in the First Half of 2017" at the Rolling Hills Hotel in Hwaseong City, Gyeonggi-do with Yang Woong-cheol, vice chairman of the Hyundai Motor R&D Headquarters and those from 138 partner companies. The event marks its 12th year this year since it was first held in 2006.

Hyundai and Kia will deal with the rapidly changing automotive market environment such as connected cars, autonomous driving and environmentally friendly vehicles by working with its partners. To this end, the two Korean automakers explained “Residence Engineer” activities to their partners this year and asked for their active participation in the program. Residence engineer is an activity where Hyundai and Kia researchers visit and directly collaborate with partner companies.

Hyundai and Kia are planning to provide residence engineers to 62 partners this year. Apart from this, they are also running the Technical Support Team for Suppliers’ R&D, which supports their suppliers' everyday R&D activities.

The technology promotion event in the second half of this year will feature an exhibition of new technologies and open related technology seminars. On top of that, the company plans to hold the “R&D Motor Show” to display and compare finished cars from competitors around the world with Hyundai and Kia models.
