According to market research firm IHS, LG Display supplied 35.42 million units of nine-inch and larger display panels in the first quarter of this year to record a market share of 21.4% in the world. The company posted the highest share in that market for no less than 30 quarters in a row since the fourth of 2009 although the number and share slightly fell from 39.222 million and 21.9%, respectively. It was followed by BOE (21%), AUO (16.4%), Innolux (16.2%) and Samsung Display (10%).

LG Display outperformed all the others in terms of sales and area as well with its respective shares reaching 27.8% and 25%. Samsung Display’s market shares on a sales basis and an area basis were 15.5% and 16.1%, fourth and second worldwide, respectively. AUO’s share on an area basis was 16.5%.

In the meantime, the total supply in the market was approximately 165.72 million units in the first quarter of 2017, down 8% from the previous quarter. LG Display topped the segment of the market that consists of LCD panels for UHD TVs for the sixth consecutive quarter with a share of 29.2%. In addition, it came in first with 21.1% and 25.2% in the TV panel and monitor panel segments, too.

In the laptop PC panel segment, Chinese and Taiwanese companies such as BOE (27.8%), Innolux (22.2%) and AUO (22.1%) distinguished themselves while the shares of LG Display and Samsung Display stood at 16.8% and 4%.
