Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) signed an advanced power reactor (APR) cooperation agreement with Nawah Energy Company (Nawah), a UAE nuclear power plant operator, at Intercontinental Hotel in Gangnam-gu, Seoul on June 8.

In the agreement, the two companies agreed to share their experience in operating APR1400, a new Korean-type nuclear power plant, in their countries and gradually expand the scope of their cooperation, including maintenance experience, sharing urgently needed materials, joint purchases of spare parts and the joint resolution of pending technological issues.

In 2009, four units of Korean nuclear power plants were exported to the UAE. Unit 1 is now under preparation for operation, while Units 2, 3 and 4 are under construction.

Nawah was established last year to operate APR1400s under construction in the UAE through an investment agreement between KEPCO and the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) in the UAE. KHNP is supporting the construction and operation of nuclear power plants in the UAE as a developer and operator of ARP1400s.
