‘Clay’ Refrigerator
Samsung Electronics released a refrigerator made with “clay,” which is the perfect material to store foods as it is beneficial for the body.
The company held a launch event for the latest refrigerator, the Chef Collection Porcelain, at Horim Art Center in Sinsa-dong, Seoul, on May 30. With the “porcelain refrigerator” that never existed, it seeks to open a new chapter of premium home appliances.
Samsung Electronics made various efforts to complete the interior of the refrigerator with porcelain, including the development of perfect material. The company’s development and design teams visited seven countries and conducted hundreds of tests to find optimistic material for two years.
The Chef Collection Porcelain is treated with 27-step procedures, including biscuit firing of the best porcelain clay, second firing with glazing technologies, stiffening with enamel and grinding and polishing.
An official from Samsung Electronics said, “The whole procedure is manually carried out by experts in each sector for 40 days and it is a high-end product which is totally differentiated from other home appliances.”
The Chef Collection Porcelain also used the high quality material which has won certificates from the U.S. National Sanitation Foundation (NSF), claiming users can safely store foodstuffs. As it is also stiffened with aramid, a fiber composite material that is widely used in bullet proof vests, it has the strength of tempered glass which remains intact even when a metal ball weighing 500 grams is dropped from the height of 1 meter.
The porcelain material has no stomas on the surface so it will not stain or smell when you simply wipe spilt seasoning, sauce and soups with a wet cloth, removing microorganism.
Moreover, it has an excellent ability to preserve the chill with its high thermal capacity. The Chef Collection Porcelain can keep food as fresh as possible when the door is opened by reducing the temperature increase by 83 percent and improving the recovery time to the desired temperature by 76 percent.
In addition, the refrigerator can control applications by using voice recognition technologies. It also has the “Family Hub” function that allows to enjoy various contents such as shopping, entertainment and food management. The Chef Collection Porcelain comes in Honed Black using semi-matt full metals with 915-liter capacity.
