Hyundai Mobis announced in its '2017 Sustainability Report' published on May 24 that it carried out about 1,100 research and development (R&D) projects for 96 models last year.

Hyundai Mobis sets a 'global research and development network' as the special theme of this year's report as and introduced the current status and roles of its research and development bases around the world and its operational strategies.

According to the report, Hyundai Mobis operates research centers in four countries -- the United States, China, Germany and India -- with its technology research center in Korea as the headquarters.

The North American Institute in Detroit of the USA, is developing advanced technology in information technology (IT) and autonomous drives. The company’s European research center in Frankfurt, Germany focuses on developing advanced driver assistance system (DAS) sensors and chassis technology.

Its research center in Shanghai, China is developing locally specialized parts and its research center in India automotive software for multimedia, driver assistance systems and autonomous drives.

Hyundai Mobis said that the company was planning to build an organic research and development network through mutual collaboration that will enhance independent research and development capabilities through investments in research centers and expanding the number of researchers in the future.
