Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) announced on May 24 that it had a meeting with Enresa in Madrid, Spain on May 22 to discuss nuclear decommissioning. Enresa is an arm of the Spanish government that is in charge of radioactive waste management and nuclear decommissioning.

“The meeting was a follow-up of the cooperation agreement we signed with Enresa in March this year,” KHNP said, adding, “In the meeting, we reached an agreement with Enresa on nuclear decommissioning experience sharing, regular meetings for technological cooperation, etc.”

KHNP has built cooperative relations with multiple foreign nuclear decommissioning agencies for a safe decommissioning of the first unit of the Kori Nuclear Power Plant, which is scheduled to be permanently shut down next month. For example, it signed a memorandum of understanding with the UK Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) last month and acceded to the Cooperative Program on Decommissioning (CPD) of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) for cooperation with 27 countries.

On April 5, it held a workshop in South Korea with the UK NDA. It participated in the technical advisory group meeting of the OECD CPD in Denmark on May 15, too.
