SsangYong Motor Co. plans to revive a stagnant domestic full-size SUV market through the G4 Rexton premium authentic sport utility vehicle (SUV) which was officially released on April 25.
The G4 Rexton features strong and dynamic exterior designs. The shoulder wing emblem located in the center is organically connected to the headlamps to create a dynamic and voluminous front look. A golden ratio was followed for the design of the silhouette of the vehicle body, the character line, the shape and position of the lamps, the radiator grill, the emblem and the intake hole that make up the front design to present a well-balanced look. The emphasis on the side character line starting in the rear fender gives a dynamic feeling as if the car is ready to dash forward. The smooth A-pillar and the wider D-pillar show a contrast to give a pleasant and yet a strong image.
Furthermore, the G4 Rexton is the first SUV in the domestic market to offer a 20-inch sputtering wheel to add to the stylishness and the luxurious look of the model.
The G4 Rexton powertrain uses a new e-XDi220 LET diesel engine and a Mercedes-Benz 7-speed automatic transmission. The new e-XDi220 LET diesel engine produces a maximum power output of 187 PS (3,800 rpm) and a maximum torque of 42.8kg·m (1600~2600 rpm). It also has a fuel consumption of about 10.5 km per liter (2WD, A/T).
In particular, the 4 wheel drive system of the G4 Rexton based on SsangYong’s know-how and experience in the 4WD technology supports a rear-drive mode under regular driving conditions for riding comfort and efficient fuel consumption as well as a 4WD High/Low mode for particular road surface conditions as the driver may feel is required to improve the driving force. A combination of a front double wishbone and a rear multi-link independent suspension ensures a high level of straight and cornering driving stability and riding feel.
The G4 Rexton has the most airbags in the segment with nine airbags including the knee-airbag for the driver and the side-airbags in the rear and also uses various advanced safety technologies including the newly developed quad frame made of advanced high-strength steel to provide class-leading safety for passengers.
The quad frame body made of a 1.5 GPa-grade advanced high-strength giga steel for the first time worldwide has achieved a substantial weight reduction thanks to innovative engineering and enhances the safety of the other vehicle in an accident as well. The body chassis also uses 81.7 percent of the advanced high-strength steel, the largest amount in the segment, to offer high strength while decrease weight at the same time.
In addition, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) are applied such as the Autonomous Emergency Braking System (AEBS), the Lane Change Assist (LCA), the Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) and the Blind Spot Detection (BSD) to ensure seamless safety of the passengers.
The infotainment system installed in the G4 Rexton is one of the model’s most attractive features. It offers a wide 9.2-inch HD screen, which offers excellent connectivity with the mobile device and thus, ensures quality of entertainment and enjoyment while on the move.
Apple Carplay and Android Auto provide a mirroring service. G4 Rexton users can connect their Android device over the Wi-Fi for increased convenience.
The G4 Rexton offers a 3D AVM (Around View Monitoring) for the first time in the domestic market to deliver a real view of the surrounding for the driver to increase safety and convenience during low-speed driving or parking. The model also supports DMB function so users can make the best use of the wide 9.2-inch HD screen.
There are many other distinguished features such as the Auto Closing which locks a door automatically when the key is carried away from the car, Easy Access which automatically adjusts the seat position for easy access when door opens, a high-performing dual-zone fully automated air-condition that filters even the fine dust, the 220V/115V inverter in the rear, all door passive entry function and a smart tailgate to increase convenience for loading and unloading of cargo.
