LG CNS announced on May 1 that it has recently signed an electronic shelf label (ESL) supply contract with 100 GS Supermarket stores and will provide the system in earnest.

The ESL is a small electric paper display (EPD)-based device. Using the internet of things (IoT) technology, the ESL displays prices of products on shelves through the gateway by collecting price data from the headquarters server.

The domestic ESL market is worth 700 billion won (US$613.77 million) as of medium and large-sized distribution stores and will reach 1 trillion won (US$876.81 million) when combining small stores.

Meanwhile, LG CNS is also pushing for more diverse service models based on e-paper technologies

LG CNS has provided the ESL systems for medicine laboratories at South Koren large pharmaceutical companies which needs a certificate of good manufacturing practice (GMP), personal nameplates at offices of LG Group’s affiliates and business meeting places as well as hospitals and factories.

In addition, the company plans to push into the global market with its ESL solution proven in South Korea. Currently, LG CNS has completed the test operation of the ESL system at a large distribution company in Indonesia and is about to sign a formal contract.
