In the global smartphone market, Samsung Electronics reclaimed the number-one title. Samsung which lost the top spot to Apple in the fourth quarter of last year came in first again.

According to market research firm IDC on April 30, Samsung Electronics ranked first by selling 79.2 million units in the first quarter of this year. The Korean smartphone giant sold 77.5 million units in the fourth quarter of last year, giving first place to Apple, which sold 78.3 million units.

This was because the vacuum left by the Galaxy Note 7, which had been discontinued, was filled by low- and mid-priced models such as the Galaxy A but Apple did not made any big hits.

This time, the popularity of Apple's iPhone 7 waned, posting only 51.6 million units in sales.

Meanwhile, three major smartphone makers in China including Huawei, Oppo and Vivo, sold 77.9 million units altogether during this period and increased their sales volume by 15.5 million units from the same period of last year.
