Some market watchers forecasted that Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy S8 Plus with a larger display will sell more than the Galaxy S8.

Lee Jae-yoon, analyst at Yuanta Securities, said in his investment report that annual sales of the Galaxy S8 series this year will reach 50.41 million units and the Galaxy S8 Plus will account for 53.9 percent, or 27.19 million units, of the total.

The Galaxy S8 series consists of three models – the 5.8-inch Galaxy S8 with 64GB of storage and 6.2-inch Galaxy S8 Plus with 64GB and 128GB. The Galaxy S8 Plus is getting more popular than the base model because a growing number of consumers now prefer a larger display for the use of mobile games and videos. In particular, the Galaxy S8 Plus with 128GB storage and high-end specifications is in short supply in the domestic market.

Yuanta Securities said the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S7 series also sold more edge models than the base models. The annual sales of the Galaxy S6 series in 2015 stood at 52.89 million units and 51.3 percent of them came from edge models. The Galaxy S7 series sold 48.97 million units in 2016 and its edge models also accounted for 51.9 percent of the total.

Previously, Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S7 series came with two versions – an edge model with curved screen and base model with flat screen. The company has applied curved displays to all models from the Galaxy S8 series but diversified the size of screens.
