Ssangyong Motors took the wrap off the Tivoli Air diesel model at a press event of the 2017 Shanghai Auto Show on the National Center for Exhibition and Convention on April 19.

"In its 60-year history since its inception, Ssangyong Motors has grown into a world-class SUV-specialized company with know-how in the development of authentic SUVs," said Lim Han-gyu, CEO of Ssangyong Motors. “The Tivoli Air diesel model to be introduced today will offer not only powerful performances but commercial value suitable for various lifestyles as the model followed strict European standards from design to production."

The Korea-based automaker explained that the addition of the diesel model to existing Tivoli gasoline models has broadened selection for consumers. Last year, new car sales in the Chinese market grew 15% year on year to 24.4 million units. As the Chinese SUV market on which Ssangyong Motors will focus accounted for 45% of the Chinese market and sales of under-1.6-liter models increased 21.4%. The Tivoli models such as the Tivoli Air belong to the under-1.6-liter model category.

Ssangyong Motors will open a 540-square-meter exhibition hall at the Shanghai Motor Show and exhibit a total of four models (six units) including new models and the Korando C, Tivoli, and Tivoli Air Gasoline among others.

In the meantime, Ssangyong Motors concluded a letter of intent (LOI) to establish a joint venture with Shaanxi Train Group in October last year and studying the feasibility of the construction of a production factory, judging that securing a local production base is absolutely needed in order to increase competitiveness in China market and expand sales volume.
