SK Telecom took the first step to commercialize the 5G network, a next-generation wired and wireless communications infrastructure.
The company revealed “Request For Information (RFI) of 5G” on April 4, saying “We are seeking to officially discuss and advance 5G services and core technologies with partner companies at home and abroad.”
The RFI includes SK Telecom’s current 5G development situation and technical requirements. Partner companies which want to join the project should turn in a written response by April 27.
SK Telecom, in particular, included core technologies, such as ultra-high frequency band wireless transmission and 5G roaming at home and abroad, in the RFI in order to work together for 5G commercialization with partner firms.
Park Jin-hyo, the head of SK Telecom Network Technical Institute, said, “Making RFI public is the first official step made by SK Telecom to jointly establish the 5G ecosystem and prepare for its commercialization with partners.”
