Renault Samsung Motor's mid-sized sedan SM6 will be recalled due to manufacturing defects. Moreover, the local unit of French carmaker Renault violated domestic safety standards, so it ought to pay a fine of about 600 million won (US$522,000).

It has been found that the SM6 model has the low fastening power of its plastic covers at the tops of its accelerator and brake pedals which could interfere with its driver's acceleration and brake pedal operations, thereby hampering safe driving. This recall affects 51,000 SM6 passenger cars manufactured from October 5, 2015 to October 24, 2016.

It has been also found that the SM6 vehicle violated domestic safety standards. There was a possibility that the brake light did not turn on for a few seconds under certain conditions due to a body control device error.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will fine Renault Samsung about 611 million won, or one-thousandth of the sales amount of the vehicle. This recall covers 23,295 SM6 (with an LED device) cars manufactured from November 26, 2015 to November 11, 2016.

On top of that, the transport minister discovered that a child safety accident could occur due to a defective internal component of its child protection lock. Therefore, the company will make recall of 15,938 SM6 passenger cars manufactured from May 19, 2016 to August 8, 2016.

Another defect is that if the water pump pulley is damaged due to defective materials, the cooling water temperature may rise and a low battery voltage may interfere with safe operation. This recall will reach 5,626 SM6 (2.0 gasoline engine) passenger cars manufactured from January 21, 2016 to March 19, 2016.
